For a number of years, The Friends have been fundraising for a major redevelopment of the Hospice premises on the Curragh, and this includes an extension which will increase bed capacity from seven to thirteen palliative care support bedrooms.
A Day Hospice is being included to allow the palliative Home Care patients a ‘day out’ and provide some respite for their families.
The aim of the Day Hospice is to provide timely, clinically appropriate and sensitive person centred care for patients.
It will provide supportive management for common debilitating symptoms, e.g. breathlessness, fatigue and lymphoedema.
Reflexology and massage
This enormous and costly building project is a joint venture with the HSE. The HSE sets the criteria required for such a facility, but all of the costs are borne by The Friends.
The building is now under way and we are confident that it will be a beautiful environment for patients and their families.
