Where the fundraising monies go
Sometimes patients being cared for in their homes will require more hours than those provided by the Cancer Society.
Where this is requested by the home care team we will fund this extra cost.
The Friends commissioned a local garden designer, Angela Binchy when the new Hospice was built.
The building has an internal open-air centre with private courtyards outside each bedroom which patients or families can use.
We also fund the maintenance of this garden.
Patients frequently need to attend hospitals. We fund the private ambulance service for each individual in a safe and friendly manner.
Our Volunteer drivers use their own cars to collect prescriptions and deliver blood samples to the local hospital.
At present, the Hospice requires more storage space.
We have agreed with the HSE to fund this as soon as appropriate planning permission is obtained.
The Friends set up a bursary in 2021 to support and encourage staff to receive training in all services provided by the Hospice.
This is available to all staff - nursing, catering and auxiliary staff. Shorter training courses which staff undergo annually are also funded separately.
From time to time some patients require personal items or services which we fund when requested.
We also provide items that make rooms more cosy and homely.
We fund a therapy dog, Rua, who joins ward rounds if the patient & family wish.
He receives ongoing training in pet therapy.
